About CMIE

“Centre for Medical Innovation & Entrepreneurship” (CMIE) at AIIMS, Delhi is the 60th Bio-Incubator under the BIRAC – BioNEST Scheme. CMIE is laser-focused on working in open innovation ecosystems, enabling and empowering innovators across the healthcare spectrum, including pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer, and health tech sectors, to create and accelerate the delivery of life-saving, life-enriching health and wellness solutions to patients all over the world.

The incubator will provide the facility for assessment of –

  • Quality,
  • Safety,
  • Efficacy and
  • Performance of the prototypes which is needed for regulatory approval according to National and International norms.
About CMIE

The laboratories at incubator, Core Central Research Facility CCRF , Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility (SAIF), the Centre of Excellences COEs , Automated Bio-Banking Facility, Experimental Animal Facility and other advanced laboratories in several departments will provide the accessibility to perform the necessary experiments.

For testing of diagnostic devices/kits the human samples can be used following the ethical clearance. Similarly preclinical studies can be done in animal models at the animal facility. AIIMS has a long experience of clinical trials which can help translation of the novel products developed in the incubator under the mentorship of concerned faculties. All activities will be carried out according to the existing guidelines and ethical committees at AIIMS.

The CMIE is being operated from 2 locations. The main centre of  CMIE is located on the 4th and 5th floors of the Research Building of NCI at Jhajjar campus over an area of 13,000 sq Feet. In the Ansari Nagar  AIIMS campus it is located on the 9th floor of National Centre for Ageing (NCA) over an area of about 3000 sq Feet with an office, meeting rooms and landing laboratory. The Jhajjar extension campus of AIIMS (AIIMS-II) has a huge potential for supporting the expansion programs of Bio-incubation including development of large animal facilities and collaborative research and development centres in future.

CMIE will encourage innovation for specific health care needs leading to a novel solution with greater commercial success. It will nurture entrepreneurship for global recognition, strengthen indigenous capability and accomplish the “Make in India” program.

The Centre for Medical Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CMIE) is being set up under BioNEST program at AIIMS, New Delhi with an aim to create an ecosystem of Incubation of Medical Innovations for Entrepreneurship and Inclusive Development of Indian Health Care.
