INSIGHT 2022
15 April 2022 @ AIIMS, Delhi
INSIGHT 22, a collaboration between students of AIIMS Delhi as part of the eDC (Entrepreneurship Development Cell) and Centre for Medical Innovation (CMIE) organised MedHackathon on April 15, 2022 acknowledging the marked paucity of knowledge in the emerging areas of innovation & entrepreneurship among medical students in India.
We organized a non-coding ideation-based hackathon on the theme “Innovate for Insulin” to tackle diabetes which is a common problem in India. It was held in 2 rounds –
1. Innovation from home-. The focus of this round was on the idea of the marketable healthcare solution be in the form of a drug, device, application, workshop, service, etc. Various allusions were provided to help all the teams in coming up with their innovations. It could be well appreciated that most teams had worked really hard to figure out their own solution. More than 80 presentations were submitted online which were screened by CMIE and only 14 teams were selected for the second round based on our judging criteria.
At the end of this round, the results were announced. Even the judges had to admit that it was very difficult to separate the winners.
The first prize was won by Dotulin- a team from LHMC- which solved the cold chain conundrum of insulin storage by the usage of thermochromogenic material in the form of 3 dots on the insulin vials. They also received a special mention for the best company name.
The second prize went to MISSHRI – a team from MAMC- which sought to gather the data from the Indian population for timely screening and intervention of patients suffering from diabetes as well as prediabetics.
The third prize was bagged by SUGUM- another team from MAMC- which sought to screen diabetes by use of chewing gums in the general population.
A special mention for the best poster was won by SPARSH- a team from AIIMS- where they developed a special shoe for timely diagnosis of diabetic neuropathy.
To conclude, it had been a very stimulating event and reinforced our belief that medical undergraduates can play an important role in the healthcare market both as clinicians and innovators.
