Centre for Medical Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CMIE) Bio-NEST Bioincubator of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi conducted its first in-person “CMIE Heath Care Innovation Boot Camp in Wound Care” with active assistance of the Department of Burn Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Burn Block from 7th to 9th April 2023.
Thirteen start-ups from different parts of India participated in the event with in depth immersive interaction with the clinical experts in sites of active wound care and management in Operation Theatre (OT), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Out Patient Department (OPD) and In Patient Department (IPD)/ ward.
The boot camp was organised under leadership of Prof Maneesh Singhal with his team ; Dr. Shashank Chauhan, Dr. Shivangi Saha, Dr. Suvashis Dash, Nursing and all other staffs of the department. The boot camp was focused on defining bedside problems and clinical needs with gaps in the existing solution as well as scope of innovation in wound care. The regulatory issues, logistics of preclinical and clinical trials as well as modalities of attracting investment for the startup were discussed. All the participants were very happy to attend such interaction with the end users (patients & doctors) of the innovation based products.
CMIE has a plan to organise such boot camps in association of other departments in different specialties for the startups working in those areas. These CMIE – AIIMS boot camps will play pivotal role to encourage need based innovation with greater commercial success and user specific profiling of the health care products.
Prof M Srinivas, the Director of AIIMS Delhi inaugurated the event and emphasised that CMIE – AIIMS should conduct such events in different specialities more frequently helping Indian startup and innovators which in turn will strengthen indigenous capabilities in health care. Dr. Manish Diwan, Head, Strategic Partnership, BIRAC stressed the potential role of clinical experts at AIIMS Delhi as catalyst for fruitful innovation in Indian startup ecosystem in the area of health care.
