Chronic wounds include, but are not limited, to diabetic, venous, and pressure ulcers. They are a challenge to wound care Professionals and consume a lot of healthcare resources around the globe. Additional research is needed to develop products more effective in the prevention and treatment of pressure injuries (ulcers).
The session was initiated with a welcome note by Prof. Alok Thakar, Project In-charge, CMIE. Prof. A K Dinda Introduced the participants to CMIE, AIIMS BioNEST Bio-incubator. The webinar was registered by 100+ and attended by 25+ participants including start-ups, entrepreneurs, researchers, and students with the preliminary scope to create awareness about the scope of innovations and application-oriented product development for conditions like Pressure injuries (Ulcers), Venous ulcers, and Diabetic Ulcers.
The First session by Dr. Maneesh Singhal deliberated on an overview of various types of wounds in different age groups, types of dressings needed, the proper management for wound healing, and various new ideas/inventions which can be helpful in dealing with these types of Ulcers.

The Panel had discussed the new inventions/products and the problems faced by the Surgeons in pressure injuries (Ulcers), Venous, and Diabetic Ulcers. After reviewing the case studies the panel had concluded that understanding and addressing the challenges in the treatment of chronic wounds will lead to better clinical outcomes, resulting in improved patient quality of life and reduced healthcare cost. The webinar was ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Nancy to the speakers, participants, and CMIE Team.
Key Takeaways:
- Additional research is needed to develop products more effective in the prevention and treatment of Pressure, Venous, and Diabetic Ulcers.
- Many new dressings and treatment modalities have been developed over recent years and the goal of this review is to highlight their benefits and drawbacks to help providers choose their tools appropriately.
- Despite an increased number of therapies available on the market, none has demonstrated any clear benefits over the others and ulcers treatment remains time-consuming.
